In the morning we had breakfast and then caught a cab to the airport for a charter flight to Chichen-itza, the big Mayan ruin site. We met two other couples who were waiting for the flight. They had been there for an hour because they were on 'boat time'; cruises in the area stay on Eastern Standard Time, which they hadn't accounted for. We waited for quite a while, and when one plane showed up for one family, but not for us, Randy made a call to the charter company to see what was up. To his dismay it turned out that he had booked the charter for the day before! Oh no! After a moment of disbelief, Rick stepped in an suggested an alternate plan: take the ferry to Playa Del Carmen, then hire a driver to take us to Tulum, another Mayan ruin site that was smaller, but closer.
We headed back to the hotel and told Fred and Katie about our 'adventure'. Then the four of us headed into town to see about getting henna tattoos. (Note: Karin, these are henna tattoos...) We took a cab into town and stopped for a drink and some nachos beforehand. Then we headed to the main square where we found a young girl who had a tattoo stand. Rick picked out a curled gecko for his calf, Randy picked out a large tribal design for his arm, and Katie picked out a small butterfly for her ankle. We almost got Fred to get one, but not quite.
Back at the resort we had our last dinner of the trip, then we chatted for a while before heading to bed.

We decided that was a great plan B, so we took a taxi to the dock and caught a ferry 20 minutes later. After a 45 minute ferry ride we found a driver at the dock who took us to Tulum, a 30 minute drive. Once there we had some lunch and then took the tractor pulled tram to the ruin site. It was right on the water, a very beautiful setting. The weather was sunny and hot, the breeze by the ocean was nice. We stayed about an hour, then made our way back to our driver. Back in Playa Del Carmen we only had 15 minutes before the next ferry (they run on the hour). We ended up back in Cozumel at about 3pm.
