Monday morning we had planned to dive, but during the night a big storm had come through and the ocean was really choppy. The island closed the main port since it was too dangerous for the local scuba fleet to go out. We had breakfast and waited around to see if things would clear up, but at 10:30 they announced that there would be no diving for the day. Since the weather was actually very sunny, we decided to rent a Jeep and drive around the island. We put the top down and Rick and his Mom sat in back. We drove down the west side of the island, stopping once at a 'ruin' site. It turned out to be a 10 foot pile of rocks surrounded by booths selling tourist stuff, oh well.

We continued to the Punta Sur nature preserve where we stopped and took some pictures. Returning along the eastern side of the island the road was right along the water, so it made for a much more picturesque drive. Back at the resort we relaxed for a while, and then met at the bar for cocktails. The resort has internet access, but their base station was having problems. Fortunately Rick watched the manager walk over and reset it; from then on when it wasn't working we sent Rick over and he reset it himself. We had decided to eat at a restaurant in town called Acuario, so we headed over there. The restaurant had a large outdoor seating area and we had dinner looking out over the ocean, watching the cruise ships go by.

After dinner we headed back the the resort for a nightcap. While we were sitting we saw Cari come down from the restaurant. She said that Garret was upstairs and she had brought a birthday cake for him and asked if we wanted to join in the celebration. We said sure, headed upstairs and had fun watching him open his presents and getting to know them better.
Afterwards it was time for bed, with hopes that the weather would cooperate on Tuesday for diving.
