Sunday - April 17, 2022
Had an early breakfast, separated our luggage into Cusco and hiking items, then drove to the train station in Ollantaytambo. Boarded the vista dome train to Machu Picchu. Had a very scenic 90 minute ride down(!) to Aguas Calientes where we boarded a bus which took us up the very windy road that climbed 2000' up the mountainside. Entered in to Machu Picchu, then hiked up a paved trail to the terraces overlooking the main portion of the site.
Took lots of pictures, then Cris led us through the various sections. Got lucky and were able to see the Temple of the Condor. Had lunch at the restaurant by the entrance, then took a bus back down the mountain. Walked to the end of town where we checked in to the Inkaterra, an amazing boutique hotel with awesome casitas in the trees. Walked back down to the train tracks to say a brief hello to Matthew & Jose before they boarded their train back to Cusco.
Walked Back to the hotel and checked out the orchid garden. Spent some time in the hot tub with some wine talking to some of the other guests. Relaxed in the room for a bit before having dinner in the hotel restaurant, very tasty. Then it was off to bed.
